Love Letters from the Good Life

Food, Holidays / July 1, 2019

On the 4th

We know by now that I’m very much averse to red, white, and blue everything on the 4th. 30-something years of star-spangled birthdays have made me lean towards a more toned-down color combo for my celebrations each year. Whether there’s a gorgeous blue and white tablescape or an all-red flower explosion in my house, I do my best to still feel patriotic in my July 4th Birthday celebrations.

This year, I leaned into the blue when I found some huge and gorgeous thistle at a local florist. I decided to bake myself a cake, using the thistle as garnish… Scary, I know, but it turned out beautifully. And, to be honest, nothing makes me think of Kentucky summers more than the fear and feeling of stepping on one of these suckers while running around barefoot.

I hope your Independence Day week is a beautiful one, that your pups aren’t scared of fireworks, and that you’ll only briefly think of me turning 36.

Maybe it’s due to an overactive mind, a desire to feel like I’m influencing someone, or perhaps, it’s simply that I need to talk.

Covid), I still wanted to throw some inspiration out there. This is my favorite Thanksgiving tablescape from 2017. This table is on the blog now! Cheers, y’all.

This house has seen the loss of both our dogs, both my parents. We celebrated our engagement here, came home happy and silly after a Christmas elopement. Thanksgiving here has been full of Bourbon and friends and Trivial Pursuit. This has been my happy place for the better part of a decade.

Going to sleep tonight in hopes of the right buyer who will love these walls as much as we have 💕
