My internal Kentucky Derby alarm clock has not be well tuned this year. I kept thinking I was going to miss my 100-day out post- so much so, that I actually dreamed of hats and shared room at the Galt House with mean girls who were abusive to my toppers Monday night. No joke! I woke up in a panic.
Ah well.. Let’s get down to it, shall we? We are 100 days out from the Kentucky Derby!
** Oaks, 2013 **
** The Cloud, Oaks, 2010 **
I’ve been stumped this year, thinking of what to wear. While I believe 2013’s Oaks ensemble will make a reappearance during Thurby (the Thursday before Derby) with the parents, and I think I’d like the cloud to come out of storage for Derby, I’m completely stumped as to my Oaks and Younger Woman’s Club tea outfits!
At one point, I had considered going very, very simple at the Oaks- perhaps with a tiered blush-colored dress (one already in my closet) and a color-matched birdcage veil. It would be a simple enough ensemble, and pretty… But if you know me at all, you know that 90% of my hats are ones to be screamed about! I’m not sure I can allow myself to go that simple… But we will see.
** a blush-colored Oaks option **
For our club’s annual tea, I think I’d like to don a teal jumpsuit I just purchased- I’m just not sure what kind of topper would suffice. I did recently find the photo below on Pinterest, and think that, if done in ivory, bronze, and gold, she might compliment the jumpsuit pretty well.
** new hat inspiration **
** my new jumpsuit **
For Derby, I thought about wearing The Cloud once more, with, perhaps a fitted ivory day dress. That hat certainly packs a lot of punch! I’ve worn it in the past with a strapless blue and gold number, with a sheer-sleeved Zara find, and last year, lent it out to a close friend’s soon-to-be wife. She donned it with bright Lily Pulitzer, and it worked out fabulously!
The Guy thinks that perhaps I should get a new, giant black feathered hat, not to replace my “lucky” one that I’ve had all these years, but to provide a second dark option. I’m looking into it.
You all know that I live for this time of year! People often think that I’m joking when I say it, but during our home search, the Man would immediately nix a house if there wasn’t enough closet space to store my hats! I think there is just something so amazing about a world-famous event held in our little city. It’s what makes my year go round.
