It’s appropriate, given the forecast for the next 10 days (thunderstorms and humidity for everyone!), that I’m in something of a tropical mood. This weekend, I rocked a zebra print day dress, started craving mai tais and Pina coladas, and picked up an armful of tropical stems from Mahonia to put together the prettiest tropical-inspired table set for two.
Set against my crisp, white tablecloth and matte black plates, the protea, palm fronds, and anthurium take center stage. With a simple arrangement like this, I simply laid the bouquet on the table instead of arranging in a vase or bowl.
I’ve been looking for a way to use the embroidered linen napkins from Hearth and Hand with Magnolia since I grabbed them around the holidays. As soft as they are, the sharp embroidery looks just perfect, and my silver napkin rings, plain flatware, and hobnail stemware gave the settings just enough zhush.
At the last moment, I nabbed my bone salt and pepper shakers and a vintage brass croc that belonged to my grandpa out of the china cabinet to go just a teeny bit overboard, and I love the result! My croc looks as if he’s waddling over to a plate, ready for dinner.
