No, no… this post is not about the best way to dress your summer salads, rather how to dress your summer self in breezy, lightweight dresses that will keep you cool through the icky 80-some percent humid Kentucky summer.
Actually, as I write, the man and I are in Chicago, where the humidity was astounding before last night’s fireworks. Nothing quite says summer in the Midwest like a heavy, stagnant air, am I right? I was actually wearing the dress pictured because it was easily the lightest-weighted thing I’d packed, and whew! I’m happy I did.
For me, summers are a little strange to get dressed for. I prefer to be a little more buttoned-up during the week so that I can easily transition from meeting with a client to interviewing potential candidates for our office without looking dressed-down at all. On sweltering days, that may mean flat sandals instead of my usual heels, but the clothing remains the same, mostly fitted dresses in black or navy.
On the weekends and when we travel, however, I try to stay away from all-black or all-navy outfits, partly because it’s too darn hot to be running around in such things, but partly because I miss color in my wardrobe!
I’ve been loving this zebra number since I spotted it a couple of weeks ago. Super lightweight, and a slight bit sexy, it was absolutely worth it’s bargain price of $35.
Popping into Banana Republic, I snatched this a-line t-shirt dress and this crisp poplin number off of the racks. The t-shirt appears to be wrinkle-free, and super comfortable, while the poplin is perfect for summer brunching. The tie-back detail keeps if from looking too plain.
The Miro wrap dress from Anthropologie is at the top of my to-find list, and I hope it looks as good on me as it does on the model. I love a wrap dress, and anything with a fuller skirt that can allow my skin to breathe while I still look put together is a winner in my books.
J Crew has released this jungle-print swimmy cover-up that looks as if it may work as a sheer summer dress. From quick weekend runs to target and trips back and forth to either North Avenue Beach or friends’ pools, this one may be a winner.
Speaking of cover-ups, this lemon-printed number from Kate Spade is adorable! The happy lemon print screams summer and it’s light enough that I didn’t feel like I was sweating just trying it on.
I hope you’re staying happy and cool over this long, holiday weekend friends!
