I’m so pleased to say that we almost have a house that’s done. Almost.
Our kitchen is done other than backtracking a minor mis-measure on the over-the-fridge cabinet. We’re waiting for the correct cabinet to come in, and then, I promise- a reveal! I’m completely blown away by how different things are in this room. I’m still crediting the hubs for the idea of a huge island and opening the doorway to the den. With a couple of recent additions to the family (who you’ll meet next week), we’ve been spending almost all of our time in the sunroom, which opens off the kitchen. I’ve started brainstorming ideas for that room in the future, including new dining chairs and a sofa, installing a mini-split or running the HVAC out there, and hanging curtains for a much more dreamy and escape-like feel.
All of the doors have been installed other than the door from den to garage, which has now been ordered three times. We just keep waiting. But…
We decided to go on and finish painting. Actually, our painter is there this week touching up everything, and painting the brick walls in the sunroom a bright white.
The front of the house looks COMPLETELY different than it did 6 months ago!! With a new, black garage door, new windows, new front doors, and new shutters and porch lights being installed this weekend, I hope to post a little before and after for you, soon. Our front landscaping should go in sometime in the month of May, and I’m too excited to a) have the front of the house as finished as it’s going to be until we paint the exterior and add a covered porch and b) have grass! Ever since we removed the huge tree in front, the front lawn has been 90% weeds and sawdust, and I know we’re the street’s eyesore.
Our powder room is done all but the window, which will be installed on Friday. I have a couple more decor decisions to make in there, but it looks so chic!
Upstairs, our hall bathroom is done other than installing a mirror and one more faucet (which has been backordered). Hoping to have it complete before the 1st of June.
Out back, we had 5 trees removed (!!!) a couple of weeks ago and oversewed the lawn. We know that eventually, we’d like to redo the patio and bring in landscaping, so we didn’t bother with removing the stumps out there… yet. We did have to remove a couple of portions of the fence to get the tree equipment in, so our new fence is going to start going in piece by piece. Gates should happen soon, then we’re tacking the back and one side (thanks to neighbors who would also like a new fence!), then the other side. THEN we’ll figure out patio and landscaping.
We knew when we bought that this would be a legacy project of a house, and it certainly has been. We’re still a ways away from replacing the roof and repairing the driveway, and still the plan for the back yard evades me. Oh, and there’s an office to decorate…
We’re getting there folks, slowly but surely.
