Sweet readers, I find myself once again staring at the calendar and seeing the Derby only a short 100 days away! As we venture into the third post-Covid Derby year, traditions have started to change a bit. I’ve always heard that the one thing that remains constant is change, so… Here we are!
The last couple of years, we’ve settled in for a much more toned down Derby weekend than we used to have, opting for Thurby at the track with a group of friends before celebrating at Garden & Gun’s Stitzel-Weller Affair Friday night, and a Derby day spent with friends, Bourbon, and a nice dinner out.
Toned down or not, I’m still planning outfits that seize the spirit of the season. Last year, I kept spotting these headbands in a few stores around town, and loved the simplicity of them. I wasn’t sure how to wear such a thing, but then I spotted a dress from Zimmermann that needed just that- an oversized crown, perfect for a day at the track.
For Oaks night at the Stitzel-Weller Affair, I’m planning on a floral dress from Ralph Lauren with the beauty below from The Hat Girls.
However you choose to celebrate the season, I hope your headgear is as big, as wild, and as very Kentucky Derby as it can be!
