I just got back from my annual escape to the dessert, and this trip is always a fun one for me. The first few days, I always stay closer to Pasadena, visiting with friends who live in Sierra Madre, so the vibe is very casual- built for walking to breakfast, heading to the beach, visiting Huntington Library- but once in Palm Springs, fun evening outfits, breezy brunch times, and poolside accessories reign supreme.
Travel to and From: I’m not a pajama-on-a-plane person, and instead opt for things like jeans and loafers. On the flight out, I was in a pair of lighter weight Levis and the A Case of You top from TWP in white. Gucci slides and a handbag were the only other things I needed (other than my Kindle). On the way home, it was almost the same, with the TWP Next Ex shirt in blue and my hair in a bun.
Days in Sierra Madre: When we headed to the beach, I threw on a bikini from Left on Friday, Levi’s cutoffs, and the Beau shirt from Xirena in skylight (a pale, soft tan), and a pair of EVA Birkenstocks. For wandering around the Huntington, I was in jeans and sneakers, a patterned Bex top from Xirena, and a lightweight raincoat from Lululemon (it was drizzly with the storms hitting the coast).
Driving into Palm Springs: I was up in the air over purchasing a shirred midi dress from Matteau in brown, and I swear, I think it has the most wears of any dress this summer. That, coupled with Gucci sandals and some statement earrings were all I needed for the commute.
Palm Springs Brunches: An ivory sleeveless linen dress from Quince on Tuesday, white jeans and that blue TWP top on Wednesday, that Matteau dress got a second wind on Thursday morning, Friday was a pair of jeans and the ruffled Bex top from Xirena. Saturday, we thought we were heading home, so I had on my travel home outfit. Sunday, the travel home outfit again.
Pool days: I bought a white coverup from SummerSalt several years ago that resembles a knee-length men’s button up, and this poor thing has been worn many times over through the years (a quick search says it’s the silky luxe short effortless shirtdress cover up… what a mouthful!)! Paired with a Navy and Ivory foldable hat from Lorna Murray (I also have one in beige and green that I love), it made trips across the grounds to the pool somewhat easy. I took a lime green bikini (here and here) and navy Sunday one piece from Left on Friday, as well as a several-years-old bandeau and high waisted bottom in a fun stripes from Paper London (similar).
Evenings out: I overdress. I know I do, and I have no shame in it. Two dresses from Emilia Wickstead: a lime green mini with a boatneck and pockets, and a two-piece bright yellow midi with an open back (here and here… I had the ties on the skirt removed). I snagged the cutest mini from Carolina K at Circe here in Louisville early this summer, and have fallen in love with it. An ivory and silver dress from Alexis with a cage-cutout midriff was perfect for Mr. Parker’s, and a black and white number from Poupette St. Barth that kept popping up on Instagram and reminded me of Samantha Jones was a new addition. An old pair of beige nudist sandals from Stuart Weitzman went with everything.
I did throw a few work out outfits in the bag, but this year, no hiking was done at all. Instead, I dedicated the week to books by the pool, bloody Marys in the morning, and lots (and lots!) of spf 50.
